Gardens and Farms
This page presents nine gardens and farms that are supported by Yebozululand through advice, seeds, funding or other assistance. To be able to provide this support, Yebozululand has a demonstration field, which is not only used for cultivation, but is also a training garden. Two employees instruct trainees from the Umfolozi Tvet college in Eshowe, who have to complete an 18-month internship as part of their training.

Demonstration Field in Eshowe

Siboniso has himselve undergone training at the Umfolozi Tvet college and is now both gardener and trainer. In addition to his training, he completed an internship in Germany, where he worked on farms that grow vegetables according to organic principles.
The demonstration field is also grown exclusively according to these principles. The trainees learn in addition to conventional cultivation methods at the college organic methods at Yebozululand.

Garden in Eshowe – Umlalazi

Umlalazi nursery is managed by Nolwandle and local community member’s they produce seedlings and sell them to the local farmers. The local community benefits on gaining skills and prevent youth from crime as the unemployment rate is high. Yebozululand assisting with the nursery structure and agricultural mentors to lead the process.

Ebuhleni Garden in Mtunzini

A garden that is cultivated by a large family and young people. Thanks to a small river, there is sufficient irrigation. This provides 12 people with a small income.

Farm in Mahlabathini near Ulundi

The garden belonged to the mission house of Benedictine nuns with an attached boarding school and was used to care for the residents. After the dissolution of the mission house, the garden fell into a dormant state and it was until Father Msizi Mabaso took over. The garden was put back into use, a borehole provides sufficient water and a photovoltaic system provides electricity.

Garden of the Dumayo Crèche near Samungo Clinic

Hildegard has been running the kindergarten since 2010, where up to 30 children can be provided with food thanks to the financial support from Yebozululand and the garden. In addition, produce from the garden is sold in the surrounding area and at the Mandeni market. People from the surrounding area help her work in the garden.

Garden in Ntumeni

The Zondi family cultivates a small home garden and thus provides a small income. Thanks to the fertile soil, the plants thrive and due to the south-facing location, the plants also receive plenty of sunlight.
Yebozululand has financed a fence around the family’s garden and supplies the family with seedlings.

Garden of the Vulinqondo Crèche in Mbongolwane

The kindergarden in Volinqondo provides around 30 children with a hot meal every day. The kindergarten therefore receives financial support from Yebozululand, but this is not enough to feed all the children. Out of necessity, Sbahle started to grow vegetables in a small garden. She received support from Yebozululand by providing simple farming implements and seedlings. She was taught how to grow and care vegatables. One problem is the many birds that peck away the seeds. A net would help.

Farm Sandisithuba in Ndlangubo

This project is managed by Biyela family at Ndlangubo area around Eshowe, they are working with women and men of the community including youth, to provide sustainability to the community as a whole. They are growing pigs in different activities such as cleaning, feeding, vaccination and deworming. Yebozululand assisting the group with piggery structure, water tanks and feeding.

Garden Ndulinde Mabhudle

Mum Mabhudle has a home garden, she is getting help from Yebozululand with seedlings to ensure food security, she is not selling but the garden helps her family.

Njabulos Farm in Isithebe

Njabulo bought a piece of land after completing his training in Farming Management. He cultivates a 2-hectare piece of land, has a chicken farm and offers services with his tractor. He also offers artificial insemination services for domestic animals.
As he lacked many things after acquiring the land, Njabulo received a loan from Yebozululand with which he was able to build a house and a stable and to start growing vegetables. The local population also benefits from this loan, as he offers free help with growing vegetables.
In addition, Yebozululand runs a sewing center there.
