Creches

In South Africa, 5.7 million or just under 10% of the population are children aged zero to four years. Many of these children grow up without parents with grandmothers or other relatives, or only with the mother. In some cases, the parents have died or the fathers have left to find work in the cities or have simply abandoned mother and child. In addition, the number of single minor mothers is high. These women and children have little chance of improving their circumstances without support.
Creches help here, as they enable the mothers to take up or continue their education while the children are cared for in the creche. There, the children can play in a protected environment, receive a regular meal and are prepared to go to school.

Yebo Zululand Initiativen sponsors two creches by taking over the supply of the children and the personnel costs. Parents’ contributions are also used to finance the creches, but are waived depending on their financial situation. Other creches are supported on an ad hoc basis according to their needs.
