Thandanani Zungu from Yebozululand did an internship for six weeks at Finnenberghof, located in the middle of Germany. Finnenberghof is a small farm that produces vegetables according to the principles of organic farming. Cultivation includes all work from sowing to harvesting. Chickens and sheep are also kept according to organic standards. The products are marketed independently by a close producer-consumer relationship based on the concept of solidarity agriculture.
Thandanani learned a lot, especially in
- Leadership Skills: The importance of team building measures to motivate employees.
- Agriculture: New cultivation methods and the planning and organization of vegetable cultivation.
After his return, he and Siboniso Dube, the head of the agriculture department at Yebozululand, started to make improvements. More compost is being used, new types of vegetables are being planted, the soil is being mulched to protect it from drying out or new marketing opportunities are being tried out.
